ADSL - Bigpond - Astaro 4.0

Hi all,

I'm trying to configure Astaro 4.0 with my ADSL provider. I have outlined the following steps I used to do this:

1. In Interfaces configured a NIC with Type "PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE-DSL) connection.
2. Put in the Username and Password
3. Addess and Default Gatewat set to "Assigned by remote"
4. In Packet Filter / Rules, I created an "Any Any Any Allow" rule just so evey thing can get though and come in.
5. I bring up the interface with no success 

My ISP is BigPond (Australia).

The errror messages in the "daemon" log are bellow:
pppoe[21323]: Timeout waiting for PADO packets
Logger: DSL : Can not connect DSL AC - retry in 900 seconds

I have tried another PC with the ADSL client for Windows and ADSL connection works fine. Therefore the problem is with Astaro.

Can any shed some lite on what Im doing wrong. And if there are any Australians people using Astaro 4.0 with Bigpond ADSL, your input woul dbe helpful

    Does Bigpond ADSL use the Bigpond daemon like Bigpond Cable customers ?

    If so, you need this running on the firewall.  (Look for BPALogin)

    I've only setup Astaro on Bigpond cable.

    However I have a home ASL box which uses ADSL supplied by a reseller (Arachnet).  The back end is Telstra though.

    Thanks for the info but I already have a cable connection and the BPAlogin is only designed for the Bigpond cable network and not ADSL. Alghough Roaring Penguin PPPoE client can be used but since there are no binaries on the site, it has not be compiled on another machine and copied across to Astaro linux (no compiler on Astaro for security reasons).

    I will try the MasQ as the first reply suggested but it shouldn't make a difference. The ADSL client on Astaro SHOULD work.

    Any more ideas ?

    I know replying to your own post isn't the coolest thing to do, but I have good news.

    During my frustration with Astaro 4 and ADSL, I decided to install Astaro 3.2 just to see if the problem was with Astaro 4 and pppoe. Well Astaro 3.2 pppoe (ADSL) worked fine with Bigpond ADSL.

    So my question for the Astaro developers or anyone else that knows is, what was changed in pppoe from version 3.2 to 4.0.

    Perhaps if someone outlines the changes in pppoe it detail, I may be able to port the changes from 3.2 to 4.0.

    IS this a good idea ?

    4.0 should work fine for ADSL.  Nothing has changed there as far as I know.

    Have you upgraded your Astaro to the latest version of 4.007 (at the time of this post)? There was some issues I believe in earlier versions that Up2Dat may have fixed.
