RAM utilization acting very strange

Everyday at exactly 0.00 the RAM usage increases with almost 150MB to a little above 400MB. During the morning, this usage decreases steadily and at exactly 14.00 it drops much faster to reach 150Mb (the lowest of the day) at exactly 15.00h. Although this results in a very funny usagegraph, I would like to know why this happens.
The maximum and minimum shows a steady increase over the last months but the form stays the same.
Oh before I forget, it sometimes "forget" to do this behaviour on saturday (sundays are like all the other days).

Does anybody has a clue?

I get a peak of CPU usage at 02:00 [:)] hours.

Maybe... but that means that during this housekeeping (several hours???) the memory is being used to the maximum.

Hi,

at night ASL processes the logfiles. Parsing packetfilter log as well as the squid proxy log may eat up
a lot of CPU and RAM but the proceses run witha low priority so tere is no reason to worry. If any
other process needs CPU time it will get it.
