Replacing BigIP.

Hi:

We are looking around for a solution to replace an aging and expensive BigIP based solution. We've got two F5 boxes, one on standby for failover, and we've found Astaro, and I wonder if some of the users outthere think it could be used instead of the BigIP boxes.

We basically use them for load balancing, we have 6 servers behind them (but plan to add 4-6 more in the coming months), and don't do anything really fancy, just serve http & https, and that's it (mail is handled elsewhere). Our throughput is about 1.5 Mbits/sec at peak times, and we have about 600,000 hits on a busy day, and about 350,000 on average.

Anyone outthere with real life experience on Astaro who wishes to share their honest opinion, and is not an Astaro salesman or engineer [;)]

hi,

i think asl is a great product. nice price, good licence policy, this forum for discussions and so on ...
but it is more a proxy/packet filtering firewall than a load balancer.
you can configure load balancing through simple dnat, but what about session persistance or detection of unreachable hosts ...
it is nothing said about these issues in the documentation.
