Hi,
Just upgraded from 3.2 to 4.0 and broke our SMTP relay config.
The firewall protects our UK site. The SMTP relay (incoming and outgoing) redirects to our mail server. The relay config accepts mail for 3 domains - as an example:
domain.com
domain.co.uk
anotherdomain.com
We also have a US office with it's own mail address (totally seperate with different MX records) - the domain is:
usa.domain.com
With 3.2 we could send mail from our server - via the relay - to the US office. Now, with 4.0, the SMTP relay will redirect the mail for usa.domain.com back to our mail server using the relay rule for domain.com.
I noted in the help file that:
.....Up to two sub-domain levels are included in the routing for each domain, meaning that a route for "domain.com" will also route "subdomain.domain.com" and "more.subdomains.domain.com". However, routes matching the exact domain are matched first, so you can pick off specific sub-domains with extra routes. ......
I tried adding a relay rule for usa.domain.com assigning the SMTP host by MX record (to pick up the MX record for the domain directly) but this still failed and the relay pushed the mail back to the internal mail server. I then set up a network definition for the US IP address and used this as the SMTP host rather than "MX record" WHICH WORKED...? - The mail was relayed out to the usa.domain.com address.
A few of issues here.
1. Note that 3.2 configs under 4.0 can break this config.
2. Should relaying settings work for 'outbound' connections - specifically when the SMTP connection comes from the destination of the rule.
3. Behaviour for names SMTP hosts and MX record assigned SMTP hosts appear to differ.
Thanks
