I'm very confused about the licensing with ASTARO 4. They told you that you must pay a license counting each IP address in your network... but which network. I have I huge network with many many 255.255.255.0 subnets. Anyway the network were the ASTARO 4 should be will have only 254 IP addresses (again netmask 255.255.255.0) So? I need to pay for an 256 users license or since I have about 30 networks routed each one with 254 IP addresses I should bought the unlimited. The seller off course wanna sell the unlimited but I want only to be legal not stupid.

    From what I understand, you only need as many licenses as you have hosts concurrently connecting to the internet...

    If I understand correctly, Astaro counts the IP's it is protecting, so basically, it will make a unique count of IP addresses from packets that pass through it.

    I've found this count to be inaccurate, since I have two local LAN's which Astaro protects, however each LAN is connected by a WAN. By their licensing model, you only have to account for the LAN IP's you're protecting, however my ASL 4.0 model counts the packets from all of my WAN hosts as well (which never connect to the internet, and would be considered "hostile" since I'm protecting the lan "from" those networks). I certainly hope they don't tie licensing to that IP count in the future. 

    On a side note, is it possible to designate more than one interface as being "external" - meaning the IP's seen from them aren't "protected"?

    This is pure speculation, but I wonder if it ties in with the interface that your default route points to, and how many IP's are seen going out that way? I thought it might be related to interfaces doing MASQ, but I bet there are plenty of people MASQ'ing internally for various reasons.....

    Astaro doesnt seem to count the number of IP's correctly.  I've had warning messages and in the message is the number of active IP's... I've seen this peak at around 225 IP's which is odd since I only have 3 PC's attached with 1 IP each.
