Small connection interruptions every so often

I have been using Astaro for my firewall / gateway / router / etc since the end of August.  Overall I have been very satisifed and happy with what it has provided for me and the job it has done.  Lately it seems, though, that my Internet connection will be temporarily interrupted (by that I mean about 30-45s) and it has proven to be quite annoying when it does.  It isn't too often it does, but I can count on it happening ~2-3 times a day at home.  I do game a lot to wind down after a long work day, and that's when I see it most.  I'll be in the middle of a match and boom... connection dropped.  I immediately access my Astaro box and hit the ping tool.  I'll start with pinging a DNS server and it won't usually work for about 30-45s, then bingo... connection is back full swing.

What I am wanting to try to figure out is if it's my ISP, modem, or Astaro box.  What kind of tools does Astaro have to help me track and diagnose whether Astaro might be a culprit in this situation?  What measures can I take to try to track down the culprit of this slighly annoying regular occurance?

Thanks for any tips and help with what I can do regard my Astaro box in weeding it out as a suspect.

    No, Mediacom cable.  I really wish I knew what was giving me the grief... Astaro or my ISP.  Just tonight my wife was on yahoo playing some game and I was in a match for another game.  Two times we got disconnected from the Internet within like 10 minutes.  She quit playing on Yahoo.  After that it never happened again.  It was like something with Astaro or something couldn't handle things.

    Anyway, I have no idea how to determine what the culprit is.  I really think it's my ISP but I can't be so sure.  I'd like to get my old Linksys router back and run with that for a week.  It get disconnected usually at least 3 times a day after work, so within a few days I'd know right away what was cuasing the grief.  After 40 days uptime I restarted my Astarbo box tonight just as another step.  I'm at the point I'll do anything.  It's so visciously annoying that my connection will drop at the most inopportune times and just long enough to create a big inconvenience.  I'm going to see if I can locate a linksys router to try out and see if it's the Astaro box or not.  If it still does it even after switching, then I'll know it's somewhere after that, so either the ISP or my modem.

    mattan why do you inquire about it being adsl or not?Does adsl have bug with this alike connections?I use adsl and in some certain setups of my astaro box it also drops connections;about every minute   [:(]

    When I 1st setup my DSL connection with ASL 3, I enabled QoS on that interface and it would lead to 40% packet loss every few minutes... then everything would go ok, and repeat... could this be your case?

    this is indeed my sort of problem.
    I have heard that a bug is in the qos / DSL.
    Workarounds?
    When bugfixes?

    Hi,

    there are no workarounds for this problem except not enabling QoS for a DSL/PPPoE Interface.
    This Bug is fixed in the new Version of ASL. A backport is unlikely because of a change in the queuing algorithm (cbq to htb) and a major rewrite of the QoS module.

    isn't there any page that shows all features,bugs of current releases and beta's?

    I had kinda forgotten about this thread... Anyway.  I don't use QoS at all, so that's not an issue.  My connection drops randomly... it seems to be when there is solid use of my connection, such as with a game or something like that.  Some nights I can go untouched with a connection interruption.  Some nights it can happen a half dozen times.  Whenever it happens I quickly log into the Astaro box and start pinging IPs I know should work fine until I get a reply.  I can ping anything on the inside network just fine.  It's just my outside connection (beyond my Astaro box) that drops.

    I have just the same problem, and QoS is disabled. Every once in a while, connection freezes for about 30 seconds and then gets back. I have a dedicated line so there is no DSL/Cable in my issue.

    Are there any ideas from Astaro staff what this could be?

    Swad, just a (very very) wild guess:

    I recently had my ASL dying on me every 6-8 hours. First the HTTP proxy and WebAdmin died, but I could still check my mail and ping my internal interface. Few minutes later I lost all connections. Turned out that the CPU fan was nearly dead, causing the (Pentium-II) CPU temperature to rise. Replace the fan: problem solved.
