Major Issue: eth0 not getting an IP...

Since I'm a real Newbie on this, all you experts have to excuse me for asking.

Will I have to allow the the DHCP service running on ASL to connect to the internet (Forewarding DHCP server)?

I would guess not, and hope it's pre-configured to work as it's bundeled within ASL.

But *if* I have to make any roles for DHCP requests, then how?

Also if I have to confugure rules for the DHCP forewarding it might explain why I get disconnected right after I'm connected to my ISP.

You don't need a DHCP-Server, it's for internal use.
Do you use Quality of Service and/or did you enter a value for Network => Interfaces => *your_dsl_interface => Advanced options => QoS Real BW (kbits) ? If so, please try to disable/remove this.

Hi all experts,

I have a problem with getting my ASL 3.2 up n' running.

I have installed the software, connected the cables to the right switches and so on but still can't get it working.

When I open the kernel live log under log files in the ASL admin web I get the following info:

Dec 6 12:13:34 host kernel: e100: eth1 NIC Link is Down
Dec 6 12:13:36 host kernel: e100: eth1 NIC Link is  up 100 Mbps Half duplex

These two lines is constantly repeating. I assume this is a serious problem and why nothing seem to work.

I have tried using other NIC's with the same result. I have even tried other machines with the same result.

Anyone with any ideas? I'm getting desperate...

I had the same issue here in switzerland. it was because my provider don't like static IP-Address settings on the external interface of my asl-firewall. even if it's allways the same ip-address. so i changed from static to DHCP address assignement and since then I have no problem anymore.

Another reason could be that you try to connect trough PPPoE but you don't need it. In this case try to use eth1 as "standard ethernet interface".

Ok, the problem here is not a 'feature', and it isn't a result of the delay between not having and getting and address.

There is nothing 'feature-like' about NOT HAVING AN ADDRESS on your internal NIC.  I have my firewall right now (a paid office license BTW) with no address on the internal NIC.  This isn't for a second or two.  It's been hours.  So my network is useless.  The Internet facing machine has no IP address on its internal NIC.  

This has happened MULTIPLE times, and this time it's very consistent and not going away.  Meanwhile, none of my mail is making it to my mail server...

Does anyone have a solution?  I have been searching the archives and have found nothing to fix this.

The idea of buying a Linksys so I can get some stability is sickening to me, yet seems to be entering the realm of possibility quickly.

I'm having the exact same problem with eth0 not finding an IP Address even though when I connect through the external nic all settings on the firewall machine look fine. 

I have just sent a request for assistance from 'support@astaro.com'. Have any of you tried to get support via the support e-mail address and if so what were the results.

I have just solved my problem but it was due to user error. I was trying to ping eth0 with ICMP disabled.

I do get the message 'no ip-address on eth0' when I boot the firewall but it goes away in a couple of seconds.

I reinstalled both firewalls and redid my DMZ (did an address change to a different internal range at the same time).

The problem didn't show itself this time, but I am worried it may in the future.  I am sorry about sounding like an ass when I wrote that; I was angry at the time.

Perhaps I will send a message to support@astaro.com next time; I guess that is a benefit of having purchased a license.  The reason I bought it, however, is for the virus protection in the SMTP Proxy.
