encountering errors with SAMBA sessions

I use Slackware 7.x and 8.x, with Windows 2000
and Win9x on several machines. I have noticed
a bug in SAMBA where I create a new file on a Windows machine, and on the Linux side the file
doesn't appear. The directory list is old, meaning
it doesn't contain an entry for the new file. I have to unmount the directory, and re-mount it
for the newly created file(s) to appear. This
occurs only intermittently, but I was wondering if there is a fix for this bug.
