dhcp / appletalk / different networks

hoi there,

usually we all use 192.168.1.xxx for our computers and servers. 

now we want to enable dhcp for some visitors and the must use a different network 192.168.3.xxx

everything works fine from .3.xxx to .1.xxx with dhcp enabled (web, samba) - except appletalk. the clients cannot find the server.

any idea?

    astaro can only route tcp/ip
    and not apple talk

    are you using the tcp/ip protocol on the apple
    computers? try a connection to the server
    with the ip adress. after that you can try with the servers dns name - if you have dns entrys in
    your macos tcp/ip configuration.

    this should be work

    but i think your macs will still not see computers on the other subnet cause the are find other computers with broadcasts (so far i know)
    broadcasts can't be routed!

    I have to make a little addition to that :-)
    Broadcasts are not routed, because it would not make much sense in most cases. But it is not impossible to do that; as in most cases, if there are a few people who need a feature someone goes for an implementation. A few days ago, I read about a piece of software called "bcrelay", which is open source and capable to route broadcasts. But I don't recall any adresses or names, may google be with you ;-)

    Ah, and before I forget: This is no Astaro Software; it is not supported, not tested and might expose some security risks.
