Anti Virus option

Hi Big0,

please post details about your config: MX settings, ASL config, routing ....

I do not believe my problem is a configuration one but I will give some basic info on my config.
I have a dsl router that allows port 25 to eth1.
A SMTP routes table setup to my domain pointing to my Exchange server (defined in Networks).
Mail flows fine throught the SMTP Relay and I see all deliveries/rejections in the SMTP Relay logs.
What does not seem to happen is anything to do with virus scanning!
The only configurable option I can find for the virus scanning is either to have it enabled or disabled. That in itself is pretty poor, something I should have looked at in more depth prior to shelling out the money for this "add on".
As far as I can tell, you cannot even configure something simple like what action to take if a virus is found in an incoming mail message (not that I can get that to even work).
I was of the belief, foolishly it would seem, that more options would be enabled when I upgraded my license.
I cannot find any documentation on the virus scanning option anywhere on the Aataro sites or in the help files. The only mention of it is that it exists and that you can pay to have this "feature".
How to get it to work or how to configure it does not seem to be important.

there is not so much to say about configuring
virus protection for SMTP - you can enable it
and you have to configure the pattern up2date in
SYSTEM/UP2DATE (hourly checking), that's it.
As background your are maybe interested to know
that we use the Kaspersky Scan Engine
(www.kaspersky.com), which is a very good one.

If you run version 2 please fetch the latest 
up2date package (think it is 2.030).

If you feel that virus protection still doesn't
work, contact me at support@astaro.com.

Just to be sure you know this.  Any message sent to the admin/postmater of the smtp relay will not be scanned.  Just make sure you are not sending the test virus to that account.

Yes Tank, this was my problem.
I contacted Oliver who gave me this information (thanks Oliver for you quick response  [:)]  ).
The question I posed to Oliver was where someone like me, who knows very little about the workings of ASL at this time, can easily get what is realistically pretty basic configuration information about the anti virus option.
I looked but was unable to find any documentation on this option at all, including how to get the license you are sent when you purchase this option to work in ASL.
I know a lot more about it now but I had to go through a bit of unwanted frustration in order to get this up and running.
A bit more doco would be really nice.

The AV option costs 49 EUR (less if you do not have to pay VAT).
This option only scans SMTP mail at this time and has two configuration options. On or Off . . .   [:(]  

To save you a bit of frustration, if you choose to purchase this option, when you receive your license from the Astaro shop you need to upgrade this through the registration portal. Doing this will generate a new Astaro registration key which is the one you use to upgrade ASL.

Quick question:

How much is the license with the AV option?  I am wanting this for my home network as well.

Also, does it have any other functionality, or is it just the AV?

1. What action to take when an infected email is detected.
2. Ability to customise the response message that is sent to the sender of an infected email so you can maybe eliminate the advertisement of ASL on the bottom of the message.
3. Ability to customise the message sent to the administrator.
4. Some kind of notification to the intended recipient (currently they don't even know an infected email was sent to them).
5. The ability to scan "all" mail accounts

That is what I meant by it's either on or off. Other than that, there are no configuration options.
Don't get me wrong here. It does what it does well, that is, stop viruses, but it would be really nice to have more control of what it does.  [:)]

You can do this but you have to do a little bit of hacking.  Nothing big just changing the text within few files.  I can not remember the exact files but I did this a while back.

Ok, I bought my AV option last night and still haven't received any communication from Astaro about what my new license number is going to be or anything.

Essentially, I might as well not have boughten it.  No email; nothing.

What's the deal?
