Install Problems

I'm not sure what the problem is or what I need to do to fix it but here's the deal...

I just bought a machine...

Intel Celeron 1000MHz(a)
20GB Maxtor HDD ATA133
Asus TUSI-M
BenQ 56x CDROM
Built in NIC SIS Chipset
Netgear FA311 NIC as second

Okay, I used a copy of ASL 3.2.07 that I burned with Nero on the Astaro box that I am currently running.  
IT INSTALLED WITH NO PROBLEMS WHAT SO EVER.
When I went to install it on the above quoted box I received an error during the last phase of Verifing Package Checksums.  So I received some advice that said I should use another burning software other than Nero due to some weird things Nero does to the md5 (whatever that is).
So, I procured a copy of Roxio Easy CD Creator Platinum.  I then downloaded the latest ASL 3.2.09.
I burned the ASL disk two different ways
1. Track-at-Once
2. Disc-at-Once
I've tried the install with both discs with the same result.
This time the install starts with Verify Package Checksums.  This came out OK.
But when the install reaches the point of acctually installing the software then it craps out again with the same errors I had on the Nero Burn.

I'm a bit frustrated and I'm not sure if i have some kind of hardware conflict that ASL doesn't like or if my hard drive has issues because the Motherboard only supports ATA100 DMA Mode 5 and my Maxtor HDD is an ATA133.

Any help appreciated...

    I vleo,
    try to install with more slower Cd-ROM drive.
    I encoutered your problem with some kinds of
    Cd-ROM drives, try with some like ASUS drive 
    where you can change the speed pressing the button
    when CD is spinning into(by hardware control).

    I forget, md5 checksum is an alfanumeric sequense
    number checking that your copy is exatly what you 
    have download, so you can try to download ASL 
    from another site if you can't correct your problem changing CD-Rom drive.

    Thanks man, that makes sense as to why my cheap little compaq box had no problem with the install since it's CDROM is probably a 12x or something...

    I'll try that first thing in the morning...  [:)]

    Okay, so I woke up this morning and finally understood what you the HOW-TO guide meant by checking the md5sum...

    Sorry, I'm kinda slow sometimes  [:)] 

    Anyway... I put the disc I burned into my windows box and started up the cmd.  When I went to the right DIR I tried to run the md5sum.exe but windows said that it could not find the file...

    Could this be the problem I'm having with the install?  Because windows can't even see the file that it clearly list when you type DIR perhaps I did get a bad download. ?????  

    Anyway, I'll try to download from the Europe site.  You guys over there seem to all have good copies.  [:)]   

    I tried to view the md5sum from the .ISO that I downloaded but I'm not really sure how to do that... unless... well anyway, if anyone knows how please let me know...

    dowload from:
    ftp://ftp.astaro.com/pub/Astaro_Security_Linux/iso_image/i386/v3.2/
    than if you want check md5 this is:
    549bc03efc9f57568028d9ce0f7baea7  on asl-3.209.iso.gz, so as you can see md5 check the .gz;
    for more perfect process use winrar to unpack the
    .gz files in windows so you can check directly from it.

    Hi vleo,
    if the problem was bad RAM in future buy only 
    HARRIS or TOSHIBA ram components, why?
    Because I have work into electronic assembler 
    fabric and I have noticed that the quality 
    control is very good in that ones (centering components, termal points of IC, kind of pcb,
    kind of solder cream, etc.....).

    Yeah man, normally I only buy Crucial RAM. www.crucial.com.  They've got super high quality and good prices.  You should check them out also.

    Anyway, I bought a bare bones system and didn't have very many choices about what kind of RAM.

    Usually they use good stuff but I guess this time I got a bad chip.  Luckily the RAM is lifetime warranty and becuase I just bought it they're shipping me a new chip overnight delivery.  I had them send me Kingston Brand this time.  It's at least a bit better.

    Luckily again I had a brand new chip of Crucial I had just gotten for a client and I was able to use it to get the install going.

    Well, I figured out my problem.  I wasn't the ISO at all...

    It was bad RAM...

    I put a new stick in and it worked flawlessly  [:)] 

    I ran memtest_86 on it and the RAM had around 40 or so errors...

    I should have checked that first thing...
