What is the .md5 ????

I burn a copy of ASL 3.2.07 with Nero which I was able to use on one computer but I can't use it on another computer.  I was told that Nero burns the "md5" incorrectly sometimes.  So I procured a copy of Easy CD creator 5 and am in the process of redownloading ASL 3.2.09.  My question is this: there is a little file under the .iso that brings up the text file of the "md5".  What should that mean to me and how can I use that information to benifit me?

    Hi Vinny,
    md5 is a hash algorithm (very much like a checksum, just more secure). You can verify the integrity of the iso file with the md5 hash. Use the md5sum program (should be included in your favorite linux distro). See "man md5sum" for details.
