*New to Astaro / Linux* Log File build up

Thanks for the link. I downloaded the manual a couple of days ago but it says little about how to manage the log file partition.  However, I could have missed it so I will reread.

Any other suggestions?

there is no need to handle with the logfile
partition. The partitions are created during
the installation automatically relative to the
size of your harddrive. You cannot change it!
If the available partition space becomes too small
you would receive a notification that you have to
free some space, otherwise the oldest logs would
be deleted.

Hi vleo,

besides that it would not be advisable for a complete linux newbie to manage ASL by using console commands. If you want to learn that, first aquire console experience on a 'standard' linux distribution. Because ASL is meant to be administrated by the Web frontend, there won't be any documentation covering general console management.

hmm... well unfortunatly for me that's not exactly what I wanted to hear.  I do understand a little about how to use the Linux console since my first firewall before Astaro was a linux box my brother-in-law built for me.  He did all the "real" manangement but did teach me a little.
In any event, I understand that Astaro does all the HDD setup automaticly which is fine with me...it makes the install super easy...well...let me give you a little back ground...a buddy of mine gave me a copy of astaro 3.0 beta, i never used it because I was running the Linux box my brother made for me...anyway, one day I was driving out of my apartment complex when by the dumpster I say a computer sitting there. (there were also two monitors and a 24 port 3COM fully managed switch!!!) Naturally I grabbed it all.
I took it home and found out that everything worked just fine. The switch had to RMAed back however but 3COM sent a brand new one back for free!  Anyway, the computer was a dinky compaq with a P2 300, 128MB RAM, and a 3GB HDD.  The disposer of had wiped the drive and done a quick install of Win98 to cover up old data...Well for me I had just found my Astaro box.  So I got it all set up.  The only problem was that the SMART Drive monitor was telling me that my drive was going die and soon. So I ran the beta version until I could procure another HDD. I did, it is a 6GB.  I then popped in the full version of 3.207 and proceed with setup.  On the beta version the only emails I would get would be occasional "Accounting not running - restarted 1 time" no big deal...
Once the initail setup was complete I imported my old setting from the beta backup I created and the rest is history...Now I get 30 to 40 emails a day telling me that I don't have enough space on my disk for logs??!!!  And just this morning I got a new error that I need to read about telling me that I used to much memory on one process... Now please understand that I fully understand the Hardware implications of an old POS Compaq Deskpro 2000  [:)]e.

I am also a newbie in ASL so i have setup a ASL 3.2 Box with patch 3.209. Also i have zhe same Probs like above so i receive a lot of Mail with the the Follow text:
WARNING - not enough space:

so what can i do with this messages .
My Box is a P 200Mhz 196MB Ram and a 6GB HD

Well guys, I think I solved my problem but only time will tell... I realized that the beta config was obviously the totally wrong thing to import so I wiped my drive and reloaded a fresh copy of 3.2.  I also realized that under my old config I had the Remote Syslog turned on and pointed to my eht0 internal network card!!! DUH!!! I'm sure that was creating a huge loop of log files that had no where to go except back to my hard drive and clog up the whole works... I did however learn a lot in the reconfig from the ground up process.  I hope my theory about the Remote Logging is actually my problem.  I'll post back in a day or so with my results...

at first ASL team recommend to install ASL 3.2xx
on not so old machine but if you want do it I 
think the better thing is to try and update the BIOS of motherboard and firmware of required 
components you need, and at last to disable by 
BIOS setting all the things doesn't needed by the 
firewall.
Don't forget to read the manual,some things are in.

Hello Micio, I appreciate your advice.  After a bit of figuring and thinking I decided to start totally fresh with my install.  I know that the ASL hardware requirements are well above what I have but I wasn't having any problems before I imported that BETA config into the full version.
Also as I mentioned before I had the Remote Syslogs pointed at my eth0 internal interface.  I had a huge bottleneck and was probably draining tons of bandwidth as well.  Anyway, I read the whole manual and used all the online help windows in my reinstall.  After a bit of learning about how the MASQ setup works I got it up and running.  I haven't had so much as a bleep or error message email in the last two days.  I was even able to tweek my config a bit to do some things I wasn't able to do before...

No really man, I'm just being silly. Let me clear my ethnocentricity by stating that my wife is Dutch, born in Trostberg, Germany and raised near Haarlem, Netherlands. Before I married her I spent an extended period of time in Albania during the Kosovo war working with refugees and have traveled Europe quite extensivly.  My favorite city is Budapest.  If you're ever there you have to go to Ghandi's Vegitarian Restaruant.  It's so so good...  [:)]a. 

I really do live in America in a little town in an apartment complex.  I was so shocked the day I drove by the trash bin and saw that computer and especially that 24 port 3Com fully managed switch!!  Some guy just threw it all out!! Pretty wacky if you ask me. Or he needed to dump the evidence but felt bad about wasting the gear so he gave someone else the chance to claim it.

So that's me, or at least part of me... how about you.  Where are you from???
