Cable Modem + Astaro

Has anyone properly configured Astaro 3.2 with a Cable Modem.  In my particluar case, a 3COM model which connects to the Time Warner Cable network here in the United States, Indiana.

I believe the problem lies with the necessity to send the hostname with the DHCP request.  Would love to try it out but am stuck with my current ISP and have sveral clients as well on the Time Warner network.

I have read the various posts on these boards to no avail.  Perhaps a detailed HOWTO would be inorder as from what it sounds I am not the only having this problem.  I have no problem with my home-cooked Red Hat based firewall but maintaining it for myslef and my clients has become too cumbersome and am looking for a better, more flexible solution in exchange for paying for something.

    Hi mcolligan,

    I'm using/evaluating ASL 3.206 with a cable modem (now a USRobotics, before a 3Com) with no problems at all. I've used many different firewalls (MDK SNF7.2, 8.2, etc...) with cable and that was never a problem. The main diference is that I do work in another country, Portugal, and using "Netcabo" as my ISP.

    I've been using Astaro with a cable modem for about 6 weeks now and love it. Everything works eventhough I play with a lot of the features. I started with V3.200 ISO image and have upgraded to the latest 3.206 without an issue. What exactly are you having a problem with? let me know more about the configuration you have and how things are connected and maybe I can help.

    I think I follow what you're talking about.  Before the company that owns my cable now bought out AT&T in this area, they required that the gateway (whether a router or just a single PC) have as their hostname one that they assinged to you.  It was required to gain access to the network.  Now I have one idea where you could at least try it, and if no go, i'm not real sure where else you can give it a shot.  

    System-->Setting

    At top is hostname.  It may be possible for you to put in your hostname, or your FQDN in there and it register with your IP--I'm not sure.  If this not at all what you were referring to, then I don't know that I can offer help.

    You also need to turn your cable modem off and then back on for it to detect your new MAC address. You have to do this every time a new NIC card is connected to your cable modem.

    Thanks for everyone's help.  I've not had time to work with it since my previous post.  Should I discover the solution I will post!

    You're the winner!  I know I had tried this before, but in frustration had failed to go back and do it again.  Poor troubleshooting procedure, thankfully this was for my home network and not a clients!
