How many computers do you have on your home network ?

What do you mean, not older than 3 years!!!

I have a 486/25 running Debian Linux that is my SSH tunnel server.  It does a nice job, thank you.  It could also run my DNS if I were so inclined.

I do plan on decommisioning this box if I can ever get my firewall to handle SSH tunnel endpoints.

ok, lets make it "not older that 10 years and regularly used".

I just didn't want people to count in their various non-used vintage PC parts.

Sounds like we are all NUTS!!! I personally have 2 laptops and 5 regular systems 3 of which are active servers running Debian linux my slowest machine is a p1 233.  I also have 1 router and 1 switch not to mention the machine that I call my firewall.... I think that this is a good question because most of my friends that are geeks as well have as many or more than I do.  They all use some form of linux and firewall hybrid. It is people like this that will supply you with the most knowlege of systems for development.  The people I am reffering to all work in the IT field and these are thier home networks, these have become pet projects and a testing bed for things that they may try and deploy where they work...  The best advertising for astaro would come from IT people using it at home and recomending it for the office.

1 dual P3 450      (doing nothing, due to a weird hw problem)
1 Athlon 1200      (working as NAS, 1TB storage)
1 Amiga 4000       (Nostalgia part, it works, use it from time to time.. not every day though...)
1 P150@200         (ssh server)
1 Celeron 366      (soon astaro fw)
1 Athlon 1800+     (gaming box)
1 P166             (astaro now, no idea what it will be when the new fw is up)
1 Celeron1000 Laptop (whereever I am, this is..   [:)]  )

... that's 9.. But, I don't use the Amiga that often, so that's not counted.

By the way, don't bash old C64's .. I'm actually collecting games for it   [:)]

BTW, Tom, someone mentioned in another thread about hosting LAN parties...

I frequently go to home lan parties where there are 15-25 people playing, plus several servers.

That definitely would be a problem on the home license, but the new offer would work.

Most people I know only host parties 2-3 times a year, so they probably wouldn't want to spend $995/yr for a license.

Various cases, and motherboards and broken parts that I think I will sort through and throw in next doors skip one night ;-)

Run Astaro at work too.. but you don't want that list surely ;-)

I have a 486DX2/66 for a web server.
Dual P133 for a file print server and RAS
Dual P233 for a file server
and a conglomerate of other dual PII machines I regularly use for testing Linux Distros along with the K12OS which you need a couple machines to test with.
My Astaro box is a PII266 ...  My wife lets me confine all this junk to a single room     
Then of coarse the friends who bring over their machines during 'geek' night

I thought I had a lot of computers at home.  After reading these posts I see that I am somewhat below average.  Well any way here's what I am running. 

1 Dual 1600+ Athlon Win XP
1 Dual PPRO 200 Linux
1 PII 300 MHz ASL 3.201
1 Pentium 233 MHz Linux (web/mail)
1 PPC 603e 200 MHz Linux (syslog)
1 PIII 800 MHz Laptop (job related)

I plan on replacing the Pentium 233 with another dual PPRO 200 as soon I get heatsinks and a VRM for the motherboard.

We are getting some good polling information for the home team.  The 9 -> is keeping pace with the 6 - 8.  Anyway, here is my setup:

Building 1 (my house)

Main datacenter (my basement office):

1 NT Server
2 Win2000 Servers (migrating to AD)
2 NT workstations
1 Linux server
1 ASL gateway

Main office (upstairs):

2 Win2000 workstations

Admin office (Den)

1 Win98 workstation (Wife's system   [:)]   )
Building 2 (colleague and Linux support)
   Connected by 300' thinnet.

1 Linux server
1 linux workstation

Building 3 (colleague and Apps support)
   Connected by 200' thinnet.

That is 14 systems.  Plus routers, 802.11 APs, an old Telebit Netblazer with Metrocom radio modems for more remote access.

Looking at a VLAN switch to simplify networking behind the ASL gateway.

And yes, this is a home office network.  I happen to work here for my day job, that is 2 of the workstations.

I've got 11 machines in my home network.. it's pretty much a duplicate of what I have at work.. for testing and stuff.

As many others.. yes we are nuts. But the good news is that there are plenty of bolts to weigh up for us ;-)

Tom didn't ask for a very detailed spec btw... and even though we are talking about home networks... some of the info you've just voluntarily given out can be of great help to someone wanting to break in.
So if you please post IP-ranges on the NAT network, everything will be perfect ;-)))

I have 12 computers in my house that are Pentium2 or better. 5 of them are mainly test machines.

Ehh...

Not going to tell specs of each macine, but I have abt. 40+ Running servers and clients.

The humming was one thing (didn't bother me to much) The heat is an other story, My hallway was used lately, but I moved most of my stuff to a dedicated room (20m2) when the hallway reached abt. 36-40 dgrs. celsius. I decided I had to find a better suited location so I sacrificed a big room to run all my stuff.

All I need now is a heat reuser to move the heat form the "server room" to other parts of my house.

And yes, some of my friends think i'm MAD ;-)
But who cares ??
