license question

You can create a new user, then apply for the home license and they will send you a key for free. (apparently according to the web site)

But the website indicated that it is at least valid for 30 days.

I have installed the earlier released 3.2 since yesterday and it is still working fine.  I guess they must have patched it up to include the expiring feature . Though there no official annoucement on the UBB, but their new website indicate the release.

I do know for how long this software will be free, it seems the guys mean business now.   [:)]

Well its on their website that it will be free
except three features won't work. So I tend to believe them.

I've had experience before with a company that does a Linux based firewall (very comprehensive) going mainstream and selling big time, they tried to remove the free version, but us beta testers got pretty vocal about it and they reinstated the free version, but in the same way as Astaro has, in that you had to register (but not pay) for the free version. I don't have a problem with that.

(The program was securepoint, but I moved away from it because of its complexity and the very poor antivirus interface)

home use stays free, we never planned changing that. Refer to my posting in the announcement section regarding the new licensing.

Sorry for the unclarity, we put 3.2 up without announcement so our mirrors can synchronize on time.

home use is free..  but what about the smtp proxy domains?

this is what i REALLY need it for..  the proxy is nice.. but for 3 people at the house, its not a major thing..  the firewall, the smtp proxy and that is about it..  don't need to tunnel back in EVER..  

so..  does this mean my 49US was not wasted for my AV license for a year?

mallyman, do you have 3 seperate email domains?  Or just 3 seperate email addresses within 1 email domain.  I am not positive but I think the reference to 2 smtp domains means that it will handle 2 domains, unlimited number of email addresses within the two domains.  I could be wrong though so if anyone from Astaro could please clarify all points of the new licenses that would be great.

i actually have 6 smtp domains that i host for some friends..   they have dhcp dsl or cable modem accounts and i 'hold' their domains for them and give them a website and host their smtp services...  

i found out that the personal edition or home edition allows for 5 smtp proxy domains..  i have purchased the 1 yr av license and this works fine once i converted the key at register.astaro.com

i am somewhat more at ease with this license structure since i was not really INCLUDED in it to begin wiht since i had a personal/home version..  

the fact they restrict the smtp proxy domains on ANY kit is somewhat on the idiotic side..  but they are the ones who will either sink or swim on this..  and my first impression is that its a boner of a move...

5 smtp domains, I thought the site said 2?  Did they change their minds?
