much thanks.. i think i found the virus scanner ord3er form for personal use...
i have it installed and really did not want to head back to IpCop.. its still running on ipchains and 2.2 kernel.. i love the astaro ssl web admin stuff..
Keep in mind that you only need the antivirus license if you have a mailserver on your lan... If you use pop3 from your LAN to a providers mailserver, these mails will not be virusscanned.
You could use the smtp proxy to scan outbound emails however, but that is secondary use to me, and I would not bother buying the antivirus license just for that.
In regards to commercial pricing, I don't think it's steep at all btw. Competitors of Astaro are no better - in many aspects.
I do host my own mail services.. i have two mail servers that accept mail for about 6 domains.. i am moving all to Pegasus mail shortly.. i just DO wnat to scan the incoming and use ASL for this.. and then route my outgoing through him as a smart host...
great product.. i just have to figure out my triple homed setup and how it should be configured.. i am used to MS ISA way wehre you leave the GW on the protected nic blank.. and this is not working. see my post in the install area, maybe youcould help
5 static public ips... i have a webserver that i host domains and mail for a few friends and the other 4 ips are for my wifes machine and my dev and personal machine.. each machine sits behind a sonical wall NOW and is 1 to 1 NAT... i would like to have ASL do this...
Ok, 5 static public ip's. Is there a limit on the number of private static IP's inside the firewall (except the DMZ)? I'll probably end up buying the licence anyway, but just interested in the static limit inside.
not that i know of.. that is what i would like to know.. i am using it totally for personal use.. its a special setup but its still all personal behind the ASL... the hosting and such is done just for the fun of it as well as the mail and dns hosting... i am still fighting how to setup rules to let http/ftp/mail from the RED to the GREEN... maybe its not allowed... anyone?

There is no hard limit in the free version from what I have been told by Astaro.
To setup servers internally and map from red to green you need to setup a DNAT entry.
1. define the server in networking 2. setup dnat from red to server 3. setup rule from any to server for protocol 4. make sure server has right gateway
mucho thank yous... i just nuked my 2.x install and laid down 3.2 and am configging from scratch.. i wanted to go through it from ground zero.. have net access.. but now to work on the other stuf...
funny thing.. my 2.x av license does not work with 3.2.. the sales rep said something about a portal or ??? that i might have to use to convert it... anyone know where?
