Mail relay problem

I have just installed ASL and updated it to the lasted revision. My problem is that I cannot send email. I can receive email without a problem. My ISP has the mail server and I am not doing any sort of proxying at this point. My email client reports "Relaying denied. IP name lookup failed [IP of my firewall]". My firewall's hostname is not registered with my ISP DNS server, could this be the problem? My experience with firewalls and network engineering is limited but dangerous. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks   [:)]

    Hi awolfeDH,

    when the mailserver u would use is by your ISP and u don't want to proxy smtp then u have to tell your mailclient the hostname or IP of the ISP's SMTP-Mailserver. U could switch the SMTP-Proxy off.

    To secure your connection, define the ISP-SMTP Server in networks definition, like:
    ISP-SMTP|IP XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX|Netmask255.255.255.255

    Then add a rule in Packet Filter:
    internalNetwork | SMTP | ISP-SMTP | Allow


    Now it should work. U can also watch Filter LiveLog to see what happend when it failed.

    Do you setup masquerading? You have to do this, until u must have the IP u get from your ISP at the Interface to the Internet!
