DHCP ASL/linux newbie

I downloaded DHCP and was able to use SSH to copy it to the login directory on the ASL box. I could not copy it anywhere else.

When I run the DHCP script it tells me access denied when copying the files.

What do I need to do next and does anyone have good documented examples of configuring the files. I use ASL for MS Terminal Services, Exchange and VPN access.

    Read the instructions on installing DHCP included with the DHCP files, and see if anything is posted at docs.astaro.org.

    Sounds to me like you have a permissions problem and you're not logged in as root.

    The only way I can login is using SSH and the username loginuser. Is there a root password with the username root. I did not see one assigned during setup.

    The readme and other files with the downlaod don't tell me much.

    you were right until logging in as loginuser, now what you have to do is, su as root, and get in. That means you will have complete privileges, to install all softwares you want.

    Got DHCP to work on the eth1 interface. 

    I could not get the install script to run,
    I had to manually copy the files to the respective directories and set the rights to 777.
    Thanks to Benoits script I was able to do this.

    DHCP now works and I have my static and dynamic entries loading fine.

    Does anyone know how often DHCPCD will attempt to lease a new address and how can I change the timing of this for cable and DSL that change the IP every 4 hours or less?

    It also looks like DHCPCD will launch the UPDATEIP script, another message gives me the ipmression I will need to do this manually or via INET.D. If I need to do it through INET.D how do I configure this?

    Hey Lanman do you need instructions on how to get the VPN, ternimal server, exchange to run through the firewall...?

    Its very simple I can tell you how if you dont know the port numbers

    I would recommend on the VPN to dial into the ASL box and NOT use the windows Routing and Remote access is sucks...

    Thanks for the offer, I have Exchange and TS working just fine. Not much different than Checkpoint. 

    I do need some asisstance with making sure DHCP on eth1 works correct. It seems that when I get new IP from the ISP the routing for outbound traffic stops working. UpdateIP does its job but something else is failing. Any ideas.


    I have used Win2k for dial in and have even setup pretty secure FW using it but yes you are correct win2k is not very reliable or fast.

    Asatro is one of the fastest VPN server I have used.

    Yep I felt the same why by far ASL is exteremly fast for VPN.  Nothing MS based came close.
