ADSL with static IP and no login needed

Hi,

I have an ADSL connection with static IP and I do not need to login with any userid. The moment I power up my modem/system, I am connected to the Internet. Currently, I am using my ADSL modem as the outgoing and incoming device. Ofcourse, everything got routed/pat/nat to my ASL box.

My question is:
I believe I should be able to just use my ADSL modem as the bridge and assign the static IP to my ASL box so that any outgoing/incoming rule are handled by my ASL box and not the modem. The thing is, how can I configure pppoe to do this in my ASL box.

Does ASL support this now or in the future for such feature?

Can anyone help in the meantime? Has anyone tried this?

    Sorry, i can't help you with your problem.

    But could you tell me how you got an pppd to work on your asl???

    Today a friend gave a (for asl) precompiled pppoe to me. But, even I installed the asl plus-package including gcc, glibc, etc., I wasn't able to compile a pppd.   [:(]

    If you can help it, don't set up your ADSL modem as a bridge, if you can set it up as a router you will have more success.  With bridging you still need to know your provider's parameters because your ASL box will need to know the default route on your ISP's side of the network. If you use a DSL modem as a router, your ASL box will still have a IP address and will use your ADSL modem as your default router.  I've used a Zyxel 642R DSL router with great success.
