Why to choose ASTARO ?

Hello Everyone in the Forum:
We are an Educational Institute and looking at ASTARO to be part of our Network in terms of the FIREWALL. We have HARDWARE (server class machine) for the same. I need some solid input from the forum that what is the disadvantage of ASTARO, from where I can see the technical comparisons of this product with that of other and lastly, will this product be good for a network of 500+ nodes with 1MB internet link.

    You claim that you have "Server Class" hardware.  The only potential drawback I can think of is that Astaro does not yet support hardware RAID controllers.  The topic continues to resurface in the forum so I would anticipate the addition fairly soon.  Other than that, is is a VERY capable, cost effective solution for your situation.

    To conclude, does anyone know any Educational/University as a site using ASTARO in their environment. This may be my last consideration before I choose the product.

    there are many educational institutes around the world using the product, but as you know,  in the security environment references are not named.

    Abid I think you should go for Astaro, as adviced by others, its a pretty good product with the best features included.

    yes you should use Astaro. It is one of the most professionally put together firewalls I've come across.

    The features speak for themselves, and I'm certain that it will handle your network.
    I don't have 500 users at home, but I do have a 1M SDSL connection. 
    I've stress-tested this at peak performance, and the current Pentium 200MMX with 196M RAM have no problems with traffic.

    Surely, 500 users would make a difference if you intend to use the proxies - but I'd consider that a matter of how much power you could pack in the machine.
