Firewall admin email address goes to a RedHat 7.1 mailserver running sendmail-8.11.2-14, the pop server ipop3d (ipop3d POP3 v2000.69rh), and Amavis-Perl with McAfee for Anti-Virus.
When the email is in /var/spool/mail on the mailserver, it appears that the ABF file is the right size (around 4k), but upon examining it with PINE, it is not an attachment, but just binary in the body of the message.
When downloading the email via POP, Eudora thinks it is an attachment, but it is severely truncated (not more than a few hundred bytes) and is unusable.
I believe everything was OK with the old RH6.1 mailserver without Amavis.
However, Amavis handles other attachments just fine, including gifs renamed to .abf, indicating that Amavis is working OK.
Therefore, ISTM that ASL is not correctly defining that this is a binary attachment.
In fact, it appears that Sendmail or Amavis is converting it to MIME from plaintext... Of course this is probably the problem, but if ASL isn't setting the MIME type correctly, Sendmail or Amavis must guess.
I believe it needs to be multipart or binary or something like that.
