Wishlist: redundant/failover EXT

I'm sure this has been requested before, but I'd like to explain my idea:

Allow multiple EXTERNAL interfaces with:

   Automatic failover if one goes down:
      
          update routing
          initiate PPP connection if using        
          DIAL-UP on secondary
          email admin to let him/her know line is 
           down
          accounting on each interface
          disconnect dial-up when primary is back    
           up
          [/list]

       Optional Load balancing if both lines are 
        dedicated (not dialup) (or maybe even if
         they are dialup for increased speeds)


    Our T1 ISP, Pacific Bell, seems to be having horrible problems lately due to Code Red or nimda, and I have had to setup Coyote as a dial-up server, but I'd really like to have ASL do everything automatically.

    I know PPP packages are available, but I'd like to see the routing, etc., get updated automatically.

    thats quite a lot you are asking for  [;)]

    Frankly, I think it's not in a dedicated firewall's scope.

    It should better be handled by a dedicated router.

    Tom, I know it's a lot, but I also know it's been done in other Linux projects such as LRP.

    The scripts I've seen for updating the routing for failover are quite simple, so ISTM that this is very feasible for ASL.

    Anyways, just my wishlist.
