Disk activity

Hi there!

Why is there such heavy diskactivity even when the firewall doesnt have ANYTHING to do?

I hear my disk spinn 24 hours a day, with no connections through the FW !

I have to by a new disk soon  [:)]

    Hi Kazzar,

    just take a look at `ps auxf` on your console, and you will see that 'nothing to do' is only in minimal relation to connections through your firewall ...

    There are many tasks that have to be performed even when no connections are made: selfmonitoring (with involves a lot of small tasks been done regularly), logging (even if nothing is done, many daemons just log their status, like named and nacctd), besides the usual kernel working, scheduling, swapping, syncing disks, removing modules, doing cronjobs etc pp - if you know every task that is done on your machine by daemons, processes and the kernel, you know more than I do  [;)]

    It was the qmail proxy... im not using it but it did "smoething" all the time. Now ive disabled it. So quiet nowdays back home  [:)]
