1.950 (or 1.951) update fails miserably

The driver modules included with one of the recent updates fails miserably on my box.  Specifically the tulip driver (which crashes) and the natsemi driver (which spits out messages that say "Something Wicked happened!")  no longer work.

Since the update process removes any trace of the previous (and working) kernel&drivers, this leaves me without a working firewall.  Or even a way to upgrade to a working one, should it become available.


My box is an AMD-K5 100 and has served as a firewall for several years (with other software.)

    sorry for this, but we test the new tulip driver very successfully...

    Please post the vendor and type of your NICs, and if possible (perhaps with a ASL install disk and bash please) cat /proc/pci.

    The 'tulip' card was a Netgear FA310-TX.
    The 'natsemi' card is a Netgear FA311.

    I have good success with both cards and recent (2.4.[5-8]) kernels.

    My first guess would be that the compilation settings for the kernel compile changed to produce Pentium only code. (To repeat, this is an AMD K5 cpu.)

    I can't get you a copy of /proc/pci right away as this machine doesn't have a floppy or CD-ROM attached at the moment.
