DMZ????

At my company i have to build a network with a mailserver for the people in our office, but our customers have an application that has to collect mail from a mailbox with us. So our customers have to have an mailaccount on our server and the application is getting the mail over the internet. Now is my question: do i place the mailserver(mostly used by our office/internal network) in a DMZ or do i just place it in the internal network. And if i place it in a DMZ can ASL still scan the mail for virusses.

    Even if you can put it in the internal net, I think it is better to put it in a DMZ, so you can fine-tune what is passing to it AND still be secured in the internal net in case of a security breach in that server. I guess that you can still use the virusscan thing whatever location you choose for the mail server.

    But i read in the manual "The firewall processes up to 25 smtp connections simultaneously preventing DOS attacks, The 26th incoming connection is not accepted". And if i use imap for the internal network they all need an (permanent?) connection i think? And we have about 35pc's in the internal network?
