DHCP Support?

Any idea of a time frame? I have been checking here since December. Your product is perfect for what I need but I must have DHCP support and unfortunately I am running out of time quickly. This needs to be up and running in the very near future.

before the end of this year, i'm sorry but I cannot be more precise.

You can implement DHCP client support yourself, but there is no "official" howto on it. Maybe ask in the "hackers" forum, some ppl have already done this.

How about the addition of DHCPd, Server support?  i.e. handing out IPs to the Internal Net?

My company are going to change firewall and we are looking at Astaro (great product by the way), 
but we need/want a dhcp server on the firewall.

It´s a pity, Astaro´s ASL is a great product but it seem that the company lacks commercial savvy. Imagine you never know when features which potential customers are begging for since Jan/2000 will be implemented !! I read tons of messages asking for DHCP client and  PPPOE support both necessary for now popular ADSL connections. Astaro answers such  pleas with "Wait", "we don´t know....", etc. Come on guys you have a GREAT product I can´t belive it´s so dificult to slip in these features in version 2.0 or maybe you can publish hacks to ASL that permit such features. I´m willing to write and mentain How-tos on the subject.


PS. I have spent the past 3 days trying to hack a DHCP client and PPPOE into astaro with out much success. (I keep losing the ADSL link). I´m fustrated !!

as for DHCP server suport .. our firewall is not an application server, but a few people have asked for it, so maybe is is worth another discussion.

You could just buy a cheap router that supports DHCP such as the netgear RT311 it is about a hundred bucks and works good for this application let Astaro do what it does best and give some of the responsibility to a simple router.

FYI: Cisco's routers and firewalls and most others support DHCP on the inside interface!

Adding a DHCP server for your inside network would not make your product an application server. Add Apache to the outside then yes but not DHCP.

I have a request for DHCP client support, simply because I have come accross several of my clients who desire to use VPN connections, port forwarding for internal web servers, Mail servers, Terminal servers, etc. and The little cheap linksys and Netgear routers on the market seem to struggle a bit with some of the ipsec pass thru and most with the pptp encryption problems.  I need a solution that is easy to manage, configure, and easy on the pocket book.  If Astaro truly is coming with a DHCP client function for the external interface I am sold for sure.
