Well folks, I wish you luck with Astaro but my client is pulling the plug on the box we're attempting to use and were considering licensing.
Couple issues, it just doesn't work as advertised for everything. We thought we had everything working, every browser based need of the insurance company was working, until, one of the client programs hit an auto-update problem. The auto-update uses straight FTP to send updates, shouldn't be a problem, I should just be enabling FTP in the allowed protocols right? Nope, didn't do it, couple hours of trying alternate things, still no go.
A few months back I email Astaro for information about reseller prices, no response, well not for a few months anyway, then suddenly out of nowhere I get an email from the US reseller, attachment had the price list, OUCH!
I let my clients know the price it will cost them to turn their old machines into functioning firewall boxes for their offices, their response "well, screw that we'll just go grab D-Link Hub/Firewall hardware boxes for less than $200CDN", I can't justify to them that Astaro is worth $750+CDN when their client software won't work through it anyway.
I know you guys are doing the best you can, but you should rethink that pricing model unless your product is easy to install and setup and can get things working in a jiffy, without having to call for support, etc. etc.
The client program they used wanted port 2000 to communicate over, I added that and things worked just dandy, we were impressed, but then to get blocked by simple FTP issues that we can't resolve easily, and with the poor documentation currently available it isn't easy, it just became frustrating to my client.
Anyway, maybe now I see why you're asking how much money a company makes in your forms. Most of us smaller guys just can't justify such prices to our clients, no matter how much we try and promote open source and Linux usage in the office.
