log printing / transparen+auth proxy

Hello,

while just testing asl-1.900, I'm (for now) very impressed. But is it possible to add a kernel module for the parallel device? This is imho a nice feature: I'm using now on a selfmade masq-router an old 24pin printer for live logging of syslog alert messages: you got all alerts uneraseable on paper for later analyse and those old printers are great alarm bells  [;)]

    Ah, and looking on the subject I realize my forgotten second question:

    I noticed that is only possible to check transparent proxy _or_ user authorisation. Why? Are there any reasons against a combination of both? Or can I simulate this by redirect (SNAT) any:80 to asl_localhost:8080, while using squid proxy with user authorisation?

    hi axel,

    there is a common problem with

    transparent mode + proxy user auth + site user auth

    when you access a password protected site with transparent mode + user auth on, the browser always tries to log in with the user name and pass for the proxy. (the browser does not know about the proxy and only sees all sites as password protected. thus, further authentication to other sites is not possible).

    SNAT will not help you there, either  [:(]

    the problem is common to all transparent user auth proxies tho.

    Hi,

    asl beta5 which was announced today contains parallel port and printer log support...
