slow FTP behind ASL

I am using RH7.1 with wu-ftpd. FtP is very slow and times out. trtry and it will take up 45 sec to connect. Seems like it is a DNS problem. Could someone give more clearity as this is a hot topic and I have tried various options including dropping 113.

    You will need to do either of two things :

    a) Allow Identd authentication (113/tcp) to pass through from the source ip (any) to your wu-ftp server.

    or

    b) configure wu-ftp without identd checks

    Note: Identd is wu-ftp's method of checking up the incomming user initiating the ftp connection from the remote machine.
