I am currently evaluating ASL, and like what I see so far, however, I find the User Authentication options you provide to be somewhat limiting.
Which SAM authentication module are you using? The documentation states that using SAM authentication is an ALL or None proposition, however, I found smb_auth-0.5
(http://www.hacom.nl/~richard/software/smb_auth.html)uses NTFS permissions on a file located anywhere on your network to allow for group and user permission assignment.
The module works by accepting username/password from squid, and then attempting to access the file using samba client. If there is a successful access, it notifies squid that the user has access.
I guess my question is twofold: 1, can you/will you support this type of authentication as part of a release?
2, If not, and I configure this on my own, is there an easy way to get a full list of changes made in each Up2Date to make sure that the changes do not break this authentication?
Additionally, I have one minor correction for the UserAuth text file, which is to point out that the IAS server that comes with the NT option pack will not support the required configuration. It is necessary to purchase Win2K Server or MCIS (MS Commercial Internet Server) to get the functionality. (god, that Bill Gates guy is a genius at getting people's hard earned $$)
Thanks in advance for your help.
