Proxy SMTP

Hi,
I've got a problem with the proxy smtp. I've got an Asl with three ethernet card. One is for my dmz (with the mail server), one for my internal lan and one for internet. When i send message in internal it works very well but when i want to send a message on  an external e-mail adress it don't work. My parameters in smtp proxy are :

ACCEPTED INCOMING DOMAIN: example.com (my domain)
MAIL RELAY : lan interne and Mail(my mail server)
SMTP ROUTE : example.com--> 192.168.1.1 (adress of my mail server)

My mail server is configured to send mail to external adress. When i don't use proxy smtp it works!!! I think that when i send an e-mail on an external adress, ASL don't know where to send the message.....
Is there somebody who can help me?????

    What do you mean with smart Host????
    I put the mail server  in dmz because some people have to access it from outside but i don't want to open my internal network.
    Yes I've got the proxy dns activate...

    What is the smtp route wich permit to give all mail arriving on smtp proxy to my mail server???
