VPN and Remote browsing NetBIOS Shares

Hi all...

Anyone know if Astaro is able to provide remote NetBIOS share access ?

We have a number of executives that need access to locally accessed drives from home via there cable modems.

It such a thing possible ?

    yes, this should not be a problem if you specify  the shares as \\Sharename.

    Remote VPN-Connected machines will prolly lack proper NETBios name resultion, and they will be out of broadcast range, so "Browsing" the MS network will not work properly.

    I am not a microsoft network expert, but I think the following applies:

    windows uses broadcasts to "find" other hosts on a network. Broadcast do not cross network borders. Clients need the help of a "master browser" to "see" other networks.
    So, specifying a share directly by IP address will work, but not searching the network for shares.

    Give the remote users access to the WINS server. This should enable them to find the services offered by the services directly rather than via broadcast.

    As said previously the \Server_IP_Address\Share_Name would also work.
