Hi,

Is it possible to have a compiler like gcc in ASL? Before you ask 'why the f... do you need a compiler on a firewall?', I just want to extend the functions of the FW, as I'm not able to install something seperate in a DMZ.

    hi DB,

    yes it is possible, however you'll have to install the compiler yourself. We consider it to be unneccesary for firewalling purposes alone, so we left it out.

    Instead of compiling on the ASL box, you can also compile on a GLIBC 2.1 system like RedHat 7.0 or Suse 6.4/7.0 and just copy the finished binaries over.

    Presense of compiler would be not only unneeded but also dangerous. All major security distros incuding Engarde Linux do not include compiler in package for security reason. presense of compiler would give intruder extra luxiories in terms of easy files substitution and so on. I strongly recomends against idea of inclusion compiler in firewall distro. Please advise your users.
