How I can configure DHCP?

ok guys. one last time. unil dhcp is an INTEGRAL part of astaro it will NOT be adopted widely. Success in all of the markets i deal in requires dhcp support.

in December you said dhcp in February, that it was no problem. It is now the middle of April. if you can distribute a tarbull put together by one of your afficianadoes, why can't you put it into the supported distribution?

now, for all of us sho are really waiting for this, when will dhcp be officially released?

carly: what sam needs is DHCP client support, probably for a cable modem connection.

the initial ASL concept (must have been YEARS ago  [:)]sco up front.

Now we are devoted to add DHCPC and PPPOE support to our distribution, in order to support DSL and cable systems. These features do already work with the supplied chroot environments. However, they are not easy to implement in a "corporate" and "supported" manner, due to the many interworking aspects with the services and the WebAdmin. We'd rather lose some credibility by pushing back release dates back a bit than losing credibitly by putting out half-working and buggy features.

Sam, I can assure that DHCP and PPPOE are being actively worked on. We are well aware of the fact that DHCPC support is a killer argument especially in the US  [;)]

Carly... Please think before you blast. Yes DHCP is simple, i dont use it on internal nets, and only a fool runs any services off of the firewall. But others do use DHCP, and i have to work with them. If i dont... no internet connection.

Tom. Your credibility would be higher if you (astaro) were more forthcoming about features and developement times. Even slippage is understandable. We all work in the real world and would understand, but silence leaves all of your potential customers in the dark.

Now, can you tell us any kind of schedule?

dhcp is so damn simple whats the problem ?
Use your NT server for DHCP and WINS then you can look at the DHCP manager when you want to find addresses. I wouldn't use the DHCP of a printserver, router or a firewall. That's what the lan servers for in my oppinion.

our own release plan (in which we firmly  believe [:)], shows that PPoE, DHCP SCSI and Roadwarrior VPN are the main new features in Release 2.0, slated for release around weeks 27-30 this year.

However, that release plan is an ever-changing document. I cannot give you, or anyone else, including our marketing department (who, by the way, put pressure on us techies too [;)], a 100% guarantee that we can keep the scheduled dates. We DO give our best to do so.

At the moment we are putting the finishing touch to the 1.810 update, resolving some minor issues with our 1.8 release. As soon as that is out of the door we are in heavy development mode again.

BTW, there will be a series of 1.9 beta releases prior to the 2.0 release, including the 2.0 features, although not all features will be in the first beta release.

Wait a minute.  Go to : http://docs.astaro.org/dhcp/ 
Download the tar file, scp it to the Astaro box, untar it, read the files and WOW, dhcp will work just fine
