I'm a little confused. In the thread for USB modems, when asked basically the same question, simonb asked
"Is is possible to use Astaro with a USB modem assuming that there *are* drivers for it? "
plus
"the question is not whether Linux can deal with it (a closed-source driver is due from Alcatel shortly), but whether the web configuration can set up and use anything other than eth0, eth1 etc. network connections."
Markus Hennig replied
"yes we can handle this - its nearly the same like the wan-card thread. what driver do you need, which parameter, whats the interfacename... ?"
Is Markus saying you can handle non ETHn interfaces but *not* USB?
well perhaps I was sounding a bit too harsh. we do not officially support USB devices yet (where "support" means that the WebAdmin deals with them as it does now for ethernet interfaces). But:
1. this MAY change in the future (but there are no specific plans) 2. you can always set it up yourself 3. if the USB device shows up as a ethX device, WebAdmin can handle it. We only need a driver module. This is what Markus meant.
so, bottom line: we do not have a button like "click here to set up your USB ADSL adapter", and won't have one very soon. but we can include the driver in the distribution if there are no licensing issues. getting it to work is up to the user (for now).
