ASL Licensing question

Hi Astaro staff,

I read a lot of very positive feedback to your product on the Net, so I'm currently thinking about give it a try. What I didn't get yet is a licensing policy for the ASL. After some searching through the older posts to this forum I found one message speaking about "non-commercial use", which I don't understand fully. What do you mean by commercial use - any use except at home network, or use as a small office firewall, or use at ISP premises providing this service to theirs customers?

    you are allowed to freely use Astaro's software at home, in school etc.

    For commercial installations (offices, ISPs, also home offices) you need to obtain a license. In the version 1.8 there is the possibility to insert a license key - which you can buy online from Astaro.

    Do I need a key to use the software for more than four weeks?  It will be for home use, for non-commercial purposes (personal website, SMTP server and hosting my churches web page)

    no, you doesnt need a key for your private installation.

    What is the definition of a "home office"  would a room that you have setup as an office that is not your primary place of business qualify as a home office?  In otherwords, if I have a room that I use to do computer related activities and that I use from time to time for work related activity does that qualify?  I'm trying to get a feel for the nature of the classification.

    I'm still looking for more detail on what specifically is the definition of a home office per the license agreements.  Can anyone give detailed info?

    Could I install Up2date updatese manually without licence?

    right now, there is no limitation on the Up2Date service. It works fully automatically even with unregistered version. However, this may change in the future. We had thought about adding a manual Up2Date upload feature, but it has not been deciced yet wether to implement it.
