SUM and Sophos UTM 9 the same thing?

I have a simple question and have created a support case, contacted support through chat, and phone but can't seem to get an answer. We received the EOL announcement about SUM. We are currently utilizing Sophos UTM 9.605 in AWS as our application firewall. Is Sophos UTM 9 the same as SUM? I'm just trying to figure out if we're affected by this announcement or not. I'm not familiar with the entire Sophos suite of offerings. In my own research I've come to the conclusion that the SUM and UTM9 are different. It seems like SUM is used to manage many UTM instances? At the moment I feel like we're in the clear and good to continue on with UTM9. But each answer I've received through the various support channels have been conflicting or totally off base.

  • UTM is the actual appliance that does everything; i.e., DHCP, NTP, NAT, Filtering, Protection, etc.

SUM is just a front-end control point for a UTM.  So, if you have multiple UTMs and want to manage them all from one location, you can use SUM to do that; i.e., push out firmware updates, make changes, etc.
