More sites seem to be trying to get users to cough up a phone number, claiming this is about their "security concerns" for the user. Pardon my cynicism, but it seems to me in general most are simply trying to get another access route to "weasel" something or other. I use the dating site "Plenty of Fish", which has begun randomly doing this, blocking access to my account. Though I've had an account there for some time, I am not a paying member, and I'm sure they couldn't give a rat's rear end about my interests. I recently discovered the anonymous email site ProtonMail, which allows users to set up an email account with no connection to the user's actual name, or to an email address tied to who the user actually is, etc. I see there are also sites which claim to provide a "throw away" telephone number to use in such cases where the site insists on texting a code to continue account access, or something similar. Can anyone here suggest such a site which is SECURE, and which is not also simply trying to "pull something?"
