Sophos SG 115 Trunk (not LAG) Port Setup ?

I recall an issue in years past with reliability of network issues when trying to do what i'm about to ask. im curious if it is still an issue, or if anyone has an extra Sophos on firmware 9.603-1 they can test this on? (I would if I did but I don't)

So all my interfaces are in use, but  I need to implement VLANs at a site.

eth0 is my internal (type: ETHERNET) network. I would like to trunk it and also use eth0 for a number of (type: ETHERNET VLAN)s

Will this still be an issue nowadays?

thanks!

  • Hi jared,

    if you want to implement vlans to your UTM just change your interface type to ethernet vlan and set the desired vlan tag.

    The interface type ethernet is for your untagged vlan and interface type ethernet vlan for tagged vlans.

    E.G.

    eth0 -> type ethernet -> untagged
    eth0 -> type ethernet vlan -> tagged vlan 10
    eth0 -> type ethernet vlan -> tagged vlan 20

  • thank you, yes i realize this should work and is what i am hoping to do, but are there any known bugs or issues nowadays with doing this is kind of the short version to my initial post lol

    thoughts for certainty? it's a remote site i'd rather not travel to lol

  • I haven't done it recently, so I may not be remembering correctly...  I think you can now leave your current untagged Internal interface in place as is and then just define new VLAN interfaces on eth0.  Of course, you will need a VLAN-capable switch.  If that doesn't work, please come back and correct me!

  • it works the way it should , no issues, crisis fear was unnecessary lol

    eth0 ethernet type

    eth0 vlan type tag 10 rinse and repeat

    no network stability issue, just shares the bandwidth on the 1gig connection but that's to be expected
