Configure two separated interface

Hi All,
Having two different channels (2 contracts and 2 routers) for line data services, would it be possible to interface the two routers on the UTM (i.e. eth1,eth2) , and manage two independent Wi-Fi lines ?

At the moment I’ve configurated the first interface on eth2 and other two wi-fi output on WLAN1 and WLAN0 (all based on eth2).

I’m imaging to realize a similar configuration (independent) and based on eth1 and other Wi-fi.

Do you think, that is It feasible ?

Many thanks in advance
Pietro

  • Ciao Pietro and welcome to the UTM Community!

Please provide a simple diagram of what you want to wind up with - a picture of a hand-drawn one would be great.  It also would be helpful if you would give example IPs and subnets on the diagram.

    Cheers - Bob

  • Hi Bob,

    Thanks for the reply.
My apologize I’m not very precise, unfortunately I'm a neophyte. [:(]
Anyway, I attach an image that tries to explain the result I would like to achieve.
In our company we have added a new provider of data network services, this provider has provided us with a new router, so we now have two routers, one for the network1 and one for the network2. currently the network1 is correctly configured in UTM, now I would also like to add the network2 (independent of the network1) and generate a new Wi-Fi2 that is based on the network2.
I don’t know if all this is feasible !

    Thanks , greeting

    Pietro

  • Just to be sure... is it wanted that you separate the networks or was the original plan having a 2nd Internet provider for uplink balancing / failover?

  • Hi,

in the first instance I would just like to add two separate networks.
In a second moment we will evaluate how to improve a balancing / failover.

    Many thanks

    Pietro

  • You should start with Uplink Balancing and Multipath rules.  For example, if you want all of the traffic from the LAN to be over WAN1, bind 'LAN -> Any -> Internet IPv4' to WAN1.  If you have a Guest network and you want that traffic to be over WAN2, bind 'Guest -> Any -> Internet IPv4' to WAN2.  Now any other traffic will be balanced over WAN1 and WAN2.

If any of this is web browsing, you must regulate that in Web Filtering. See  How to change the outgoing interface for Web Filtering.

Rather than use the suggested method of enabling this capability, do the following as root:

    cc set http enable_out_interface 1

    Cheers - Bob
