[8.980][OPEN] Bandwidth Usage report

I cannot reproduce this here on my machines. Can you give us a quick overview over your setup and name the features that you've enabled? Does this also show up in the webadmin?

Hi Kai,

The system is running on vSphere 5.0 and has 2 Wan connections, it is the same environment that my version 8 product is running and the report is correct. Please find the attached screen cap showing that both WAN totals are listed and basically double the total stats.

I just checked back with our developers: the UTM does flow based accounting (instead of interface based) , so this is by design. Let me explain:

You are using some of the proxy services of the UTM, right? Probably the HTTP proxy. In this case, if you surf the internet, you have one connection from your webbrowser to the proxy on UTM, which itself opens a separate connection to the webserver you are surfing to. Each connection gets accounted, and this is what you recognize as "doubled totals".

I agree that this might be confusing if you only have two sides (Internal/External), but it is really helpful if you utilize multiple interfaces (eg. Internal-Marketing, Internal-Finance, Internal-Sales, DMZ, External). Does this make sense to you?

I'm not sure I follow your explanation, first are you saying that the reporting function has changed between version 8 and version 9?

As with the exact imported settings from my version 8 I get the inclusion of the WAN statistics in version 9 but not in the ASG 8.

I also can't see why you would want a WAN port statistics mixed with a client report, I could understand if it was a custom port as in your scenario but with this current functionality it makes it painful to use marking up every report so it's correct.

As far as I can remember this changed with Version 8.2 when we introduced the Application Control feature and the new websec reporting.

Well, that might be a hint. Sometimes we mess up with the import of an old config into a newer version, in a way that the old settings are causing different results in the newer software. I'm gonna check that...

That's a good point too. We usually try to find a general solution to those kinds of problems, ie. the reports should work and make sense with any number of interfaces, but maybe we have to add a distinction here and handle the cases for "two interfaces" and "more than two interfaces" separately.

I have reverted back to 8.305 and the totals in that version are correct, however I need to clarify that yes both of the WAN interfaces are included in the report but the reported traffic is not a total of all traffic through the interfaces but a very small amount.
An example of total traffic for a single day is 9.2GB while both WAN interfaces total approx 100MB of traffice while in version 9 it would read 9.2GB and report a total of 18.4GB.

Would it be helpful if I were to send my configuration file ?
