I have been using this beta since the beginning and have participated a little when I could but I agree with William. Too many loose ends in this version so far. Yes there have been changes to this version mainly in the gui department and some great additions in the form of sofos endpoint protection and html5 vpn. 

But for some reason, the core functionality is still not as polished and resilient that I would have liked. I loved astaro at v4, v5 wasn't so great but I learned to live with it again and enjoyed v6. Since the beginning of v7, for some reason strange things happen to installations that never used to happen before like daemons crashing and cpu getting hung at 100% along with various database anomalies. 

In v9, I was hoping for a more finely tuned IPS and http proxy and stabilized and strengthened core functions like av scanning, ipv6, and L7 categorization. This is the last release before RC1, however ipv6 is still flaky, my http proxy timeouts and has numerous broken pipe errors which have forced me to turn off proxy altogether. Snort while great at what it does loves to eat cpu cycles and needs tuning even for a small home deployment. And dare I say, with a huge footprint of atleast 3GB with local content database we are kind of bloated. Nothing wrong with it since hardware is cheap but so many lines of codes and so many daemons held together are a recipe for disaster. 

Finally on a positive note, this is the initial v9 offering and has some great new functionalities and the core team is still as willing and able as always to sort any problems that we have with one on one interaction. So please don't take this post as a negative rant against astaro (sofos) since I love this product and want nothing but the best for its future.
