Beta Release 8.940: Release and Download Information

Hi.

Some bigger changes in this release.

Changed version format

The UTM now uses a version number with 3 more digits to allow finer tracking and updating of installed versions. I.e. the 8.940 we release today will call itself 8.940013 (you might notice that this reflects the build number the ISOs already had). This is useful for example to offer Up2Date packages from our "Soft-Release" to our "GA-Release" if we have any changes between them. In the past updating within the same release was possible with some manual fiddling but that was obviously not supported.

To further test this feature plan to release a small 8.940013 to 8.940014 Up2Date package in the next days.

Endpoint Licensing

Licensing checks for Endpoint Protection were introduced. This licensing counts the active endpoints. Note that all existing licenses include a certain minimum of free licensed endpoints (between 2 and 10). For hardware licenses the amount of free endpoints depends on the size of the hardware, for software licences on the amount of licensed users.

I plan to post some Beta licenses with more licensed endpoints, but I haven't got them yet. Hopefully tomorrow.

Please note that the Up2date package will also be distributed over the
Up2Date server, so your appliance should usually download the package by itself.

    Hello,

    maybe you are aware of this problem, but here I go anyway...

    Today I encountered the problem that the DHCP service would not start giving ip addresses because the file dhcpd.leases was non existent.

    from log:
    2012:05:09-14:45:20 astaro dhcpd: Can't open lease database /var/state/dhcp/dhcpd.leases: No such file or directory -- 
    2012:05:09-14:45:20 astaro dhcpd: check for failed database rewrite attempt!

    Easy to fix, but I hope this gets implemented in the next release.
    (just create this file:  /var/sec/chroot-dhcps/var/state/dhcp # touch dhcpd.leases )
    DHCP leases were given seconds after creating this file.

    Hi Geert,

    this thread here is for providing you with release information only.

    So I'd like you to open a new thread if you encounter something that you consider an issue/problem.
    And please try to stay up2date, since your posts' heading reads "DHCP problem in 8.940013 on VLAN interfaces" but currently 8.940016 is already available.

    About up2date:

    I checked and double checked in the Webadmin before posting in de WebAdmin and this is what I get:

    Firmware
    Current firmware version: 8.940013

    Your firmware is up to date.

    This panel shows the currently installed firmware version. If a later version is available for installation, you can update to the latest version by clicking the Update to latest version now button. Alternatively, you can review and install individual firmware updates in the table below this pane.



    Available Firmware Up2Dates
    There are no Up2Date packages available for installation.


    Automatic firmware download is enabled. When new Up2Date packages are released, they will be automatically queued for download. Depending on the size of the packages, the available bandwidth and the server load it can take some time until the packages have been downloaded completely and are available for installation.
