Beta Release 8.920: Release and Download Information

Hi.

The biggest changes in this release are not immediately visible:

We updated the Linux kernel from 3.2 to 3.3. This is probably the last major kernel update for this Beta. If you notice any problems with hardware compatibility, please let us know.

Also we updated the Mozilla Firefox used for HTML5 VPN from 10 to 11, overhauling the associated pattern at the same time. Future Firefox updates should not be bound to system updates anymore.

Hopefully visible is that we exchanged a few of the images used for the layout to increase the contrast. This should address some of the concerns with the new branding.

More monitoring options for Availability Groups and Uplink Balancing

For Availability Groups (Definitions & Users >> Networks >> Choose type "Availability Group) and Uplink Balancing (Interfaces & Routing >> Interfaces >> Uplink Balancing) you have now more options for the availability monitoring. Up until now this was always done with ICMP ping, but now you can also choose TCP, UDP, HTTP, and HTTPS.

In both cases this is a bit hidden since most people should be happy with the defaults. You have to expand the "Advanced" section for Availability Groups and disable "Automatic Monitoring" and then click on the edit icon above the list of monitoring hosts for Uplink Balancing.

In this change to make the monitoring capabilities across the product more consistent, Server Load Balancing (which had most of the mentioned features already) also got the ability to define the timeout for the check.

New exception type for WAF exceptions

There is now a exception "Never change HTML/CSS code" for WAF (Webserver Protection >> Web Application Firewall >> Exceptions, hidden in the "Advanced" section). This is necessary in some cases where the application sends random binary data with the wrong content type and the WAF tries to treat it as HTML.
