It seems that if I try to access the webadmin via my iphone I am getting an error message saying that javascript needs to be enabled. I have javascript enabled on my iphone (running 5.1 IOS)
Due to resource constraints on the mobile devices, the browser engine on any mobile device usually applies much stricter limits to the JavaScript runtime (amount of memory the JavaScript is allowed to consume, the length of time that a script is allowed to run, etc.), which effectively disables the webadmin. This is something we cannot fix. Thus it's not supported either.
I don't think Kai is saying it's not supported, but that the error you're seeing is out of anything the devs can control. I've tested the new touch enabled webadmin on ipad, ipod, android phone, blackberry, and any other touch capable devices I could find, and I did not see that error occur. What iphone version are you using? have you tried closing the browser completely, then re-trying? does anything show up if you enable the debug console?
Hi Alan I am running v5.1 IOS and as of today is working fine. Unfortunately, due to testing other issues, I did quite a lot of restored,clean install etc so I would say let's close this for now
as a result from my discussion with the developers I have to say that I don't think that the webadmin will be officially supported on those devices. The limitations are to hard on those devices and we don't have enough resources to fix everything for the release of V9. We definitely try to keep it in a working state, though.
How about an app in the future perhaps? Too many browser variables for the developers to keep everything working correctly.
Even on the desktop, I think the gui and functionality of astaro has increased to the level of complexity where I wouldn't mind installing a seperate application to control the appliance. Kind of like ESXi but with basic functionality supported via browser but extra features are controlled with dedicated software. It will also take the additional load of running a webserver off of the appliance itself. As it stands right now, if something is wrong you login to webadmin which adds extra load on the already taxed hardware specially if you are having ram/ load issues etc.
I think we are to the point of diminishing returns. Too many browser versions are released and seems like every new version breaks something. The developers are wasting time rewriting javascripts where they could be polishing/enhancing the core functionality.
I'd rather bet on a separate "Mobile WebAdmin" with reduced feature-set than on a separate "App", but who knows?
I'm really impressed by the WebAdmin on the iPad, btw., and i think it's really usable. If you happen to be stuck with on "old" iPhone 3GS... Good Luck ;-)
Agreed on the usability on ipad. Even with the little quirks in the ipad webadmin, you can fully control the functionality without needing a PC. As quirky as apple products are, that is indeed a great accomplishment by the astaro team and my congratulations to them.
To the OP, try rebooting Astaro. I was getting this error on PC with IE when something was seriously screwed on the backend of the Astaro box. Rebooting Astaro fixed it.
