If you have a USB link which does work anymore, new one is not supported yet and had uplink monitoring enabled and deleted the interface, then changed your external interface to fixed IP your links go into error state.
I was trying to do some performance testing to add to BarryG thread and needed to local IP addresses, different ranges.
I was unable to do any testing because the uplink monitoring kept combining the 2 remaining interfaces and no matter what I treid I coul not disable up link monitoring.
When I restored the working configuration, deleted the now dead USB interface, I was able to disable uplink monitoring because the external interface is PPPoE.
Not a very successful afternoon, looks like one MB has a fault keeps dropping the ethernet card (shows in logs). So I really did not get to do any real performance tests.
