[9.192-10][notreprod]POP3 proxy died

Hi,
about 1330 Melbourne time the POP3 proxy stopped processing traffic. No errors that I can see.
I have turned the proxy off and put a firewall rule in place to limit where the POP3 traffic can go/come from.
The POP3 log doesn't have any transactions after approx 1330.
I have been cursing outlook because it kept reporting dropped connections which had worked previously. I don't like outlook on the MACs, too many limitations.
My MAC which is supposed to be a sleep when I am not home has been receiving mail during the day and no I am the only user of it.

Further investigation shows a "savi" up2date package being installed shortly before the POP3 proxy stopped working.

Hi Ian,

Can you provide some more info on your pop3 config (prefetch, tls, etc)?
Which version of savi was installed at this time?

I just did a simple test, pop3 prefetching, no tls, installing savi-9.4304 manually and the pop3 proxy still works afterwards.

Hi Benjamin,
the version was 9.4303-4304.
I re-enabled the pop3 proxy and this little nasty appeared in the log.

2014:01:24-10:00:49 cats-kingdom pop3proxy[25135]: Fatal: Can't bind on port 8110: Address already in use

Hi Ian,

can you please provide the output of
netstat -nlp

and the pop3 logfiles of the times in question (when the proxy stopped working and when the port collision was detected).

Additionally you could increase the pop3 loglevel:
set
loglevel=5

in both
/var/chroot-pop3/etc/pop3proxy.conf
/var/chroot-pop3/etc/pop3proxy.conf-default

and restart the pop3 proxy
/var/mdw/scripts/pop3 restart

easy bit first, that log entry was the only entry at the time

The other requests I will address tomorrow when I get home. I have been working in the country since friday lunch time.

Hi Benjamin,
I stopped and restarted the POP3 proxy from the GUI and received the same error message again, but did not receive it after the cmd line restart.

Changed the logging level. Attached the extract you requested from today.
