[9.191][ANSWERED] Will 9.2 take advantage of Intel QuickAssist technology

Will 9.2 take advantage of  Intel QuickAssist technology?


Future hardware will be using this. My server/appliance Atom processor CAN use and benefit from   this right now if you guys can implement it into your code.

    Hi,

    I'm not sure what you're asking to be accelerated.

    The UTM already uses the AES-NI instructions for VPN and other crypto acceleration, fwiw.

    It might be possible for IPS to be accelerated with an FPGA, but it'd require support from Snort or Suratica, and if Intel is only putting this in a few chips (which appears to be the case), then I'm not sure it'd be very useful.

    Which Atom do you have?

    It appears Intel has embedded systems and network/security hardware  pinpointing for their QuickAssist Acceleration Technology. They make it sound as if is a easy implementation and Intel has done most of the work with some sort of API or such.

    Wouldn't NOW be the time to add this with a grand rewrite of code in 9.2?

    Well.... Sophos UTM  fits directly in this key segment. Any Sophos developers here that can comment if you guys are using this Intel technology?

    Hi there,

    Intel Quickassist is a broad topic, as it can accelerate different things depending on the accelerator used. There are currently only vague plans to support it in the future. No timeline set, unfortunately.
