[9.165][BUG] ATP is not activated automatically

This option will enable sending telemetry data as feedback.
You can enable/disable this option at 'WebAdmin Settings' >> 'Advanced'.
It will not enable the feature itself.

Well, snowcrash, the checkbox says 'protect against advanced threats' so I'd also assume it should enable the feature itself as well or describe it correspondingly..

Is there any way of opting out later if you enable sending telemetry data initially?

Mario is right. Either the text (in the box) is misleading or the text for the checkbox and ATP should be enabled afterwards. 
Nevertheless it's a bug.

Sure, have a look at 'WebAdmin Settings' >> 'Advanced'. There are two checkboxes in the 'Sophos Advanced Threat Adaptive Learning' section. If you disable them, no feedback should be sent.
